We started Variety Products in 1998. Our biggest and longest manufacturer relationship is with Safety Technology, who’s been building this stuff since 1986. That means for 27 years we’ve been watching the same manufacturer’s products move through the real world — which ones hold up, which ones get returned, which ones customers come back and buy again for their mom, their daughter, their night-shift coworker.

That’s not a sales pitch. That’s a data set. And it’s the reason we can tell you, without hedging, which products are worth your money.

What’s actually broken about buying self-defense online

Most of the sites you’ll look at today fall into one of two buckets.

Bucket one: resellers who’ve never handled the product. They bought a Shopify template, signed up with a dropshipper, and now they’re selling stun guns next week to people who need them to work the first time. We sat in the middle on purpose. We know the products because we’ve been selling the same manufacturer’s catalog for almost three decades. And we price it fairly — not cheap (cheap usually means garbage), not inflated. Just fair.

Why the Safety Technology relationship matters
